Excellent! Yes BabyMan is so small and fun to observe...yesterday, I found at the beach a cool piece of driftwood with dried barnacles on it. It's tall enough to extend about 16 inches (40 cm) high. Papi found and loves it!

Re: New enclosure
So I now have 2 medium PPs, 2 small PPs and I micro Caribbean. The tat is 68 gallons and seemingly large enough for these guys.
What's your opinion if I were to add 2 more? And what's the max number for this size tat? Thanks

Re: New enclosure
The max number is always tricky, as I personally think that it depends on the personality of the crabs and the the size of the crabs in question. An important thing to remember that in a year's time your smalls and micro can easily "double" in size, where you may have 2 large, 2 mediums and a small - which will continue to grow fast. It better to understock and allow room for error - aka: mass moults and fast growth - as well as giving all your crabs space and room. If you flit around the border of becoming overstocked, all it takes is a moult or two and you can run into complications.

Ok thanks for the info. So do you recommend staying with my current population? I always do, especially if you're not looking to upgrade in the short term...

Ok. Sounds like good advice. For future reference, how many can a tat my size accommodate?

Re: New enclosure
For me, I'm all about the size of each crab and the floorspace of the tank. (5g per crab, try cramming 11 jumbos into a 55g! Of course, its ain't going to be working long term). I personally have/prefer a lower stocking density, but thats just me. For a 75g:agentcrabby wrote:Ok. Sounds like good advice. For future reference, how many can a tat my size accommodate?

- 5 larges
or
- around 6-8 smalls/mediums
or
- 14 micro/teeny (that will have to be split)
Of course, you can have a variety of sizes.
- 1 large, 2 mediums, 1 small and 3 micros for example.
As a generalisation, I would go no more than 6 crabs.

Cool. I will stay with my current gang. Seems like 3 have gone down for a molt right now, including the micro. I wonder if he will come up much bigger?

I can bet that its more likely that I won't get more crabs than him not coming up bigger.agentcrabby wrote:I wonder if he will come up much bigger?

Re: New enclosure
Fyi, they ate every barnacle off the driftwood. So cool.
Carrots and shrimp are fav provided foods. The custom tat is holdin strong, as my mastic glue/screw combo seems to be working.
It's so satisfying to have built this with my own hands. Great for my wallet too

Re: New enclosure
By the way, when I built the tat, I purposely didn't seal the bottom edges with caulk to allow for water to escape in the event of a flood. I tested it, and the water escapes. Again this is an outdoor enclosure.
So what do you think:
During water changes, should I dump some of the water on the substrate to keep it sandcastley?

Re: New enclosure
I would not recommend that. If you have one down in a tunnel or a molt you will collapse the tunnel and it will suffocate. If you need to, you can mist the substrate with dechlorinated fresh water. Also, I highly recommend digital hygrometers. They are much more accurate than analog ones. I personally use Acurite. I have two. One was purchased from Walmart, the other from Amazon. They run about $8.50 - I attached a linkagentcrabby wrote:By the way, when I built the tat, I purposely didn't seal the bottom edges with caulk to allow for water to escape in the event of a flood.
