A warning about sticky foods
I had a premolter dragging weakly about the tank, drinking but not eating. He'd been moving more and more slowly as the days went by so I made a little dish to tempt him, a slice of mashed very ripe banana on one side, a pea sized amount of chunky natural PB on the other and drizzled it over with the thinnest bit of honey, an amount like the little thread of liquid you get when you're waiting for honey or syrup to break off so you can close the cap. You get the picture. I drizzled that little bit in a Z over the two foods. This morning he was at the dish and I was happy to see him finally eat. An hour later he was still there. Seeing a hungry crab at a dish for more than an hour isn't unusual in my experience so I concluded that I finally sparked his appetite. When I noticed him a short bit later I ventured closer to the tank only to realize he was in it, not next to it. My weak little crab passed, stuck to the honey. I'm sure it was a combination of post purchase stress, first molt and poor health from not eating that caused him to pass so quickly but how sad am I that his final moments were spent trapped and were not obvious to me. I am soooo sad about this. As we frequently recommend such foods especially for weak newbies please offer them in small caps only. If my little crab's demise can spare one other hermie it will not have been for nothing.
