Vivarium Electronics TH-100 thermometer/Hygrometer
So i ordered this and did not realize it a probe on it.
Is this the kind of gauge that i can only use with the probe in the tank and
gauge on the outside? because with my lid set up i have no idea how i would
be able to do such a thing, or can this gauge rest inside the tank with some velcro
with the prope inside the tank? any help is appreciated as its coming today and want
to see if i can use it instead of returning. thanks

What type of lid do you have? Several of our member crabbers use this unit or similar ones with a variety of lids. If you have a screen lid, the probe wire can either be slid under one of the edges or a small hole can be made in the screen to accommodate the probe. If you have a hinged glass lid that has the extra hard plastic strip at the back, just cut out a small square at one corner of the strip for the wire or just slide the wire in at the edge of the hinge.

thanks im going to put it through the 'slots' in the screen.
my issue now is that my humidity was reading at 99 % yet my calibrated
analog was telling me it was around 83 % currently its clibrating in a plastic bag
with a cap of damp salt, and its since dropped below 75 % i'm going to let it sit
for a few hours, but i do believe I have a dud on my hands.
and im currently using a mesh lid clipped down with a versa top glass lid on top of that.

do you know how accurate this gauge is? because i put it in the salt test and it read approx 75ish when i moved around the probe
in the sandwich bag it moved up or down depending but pretty close. Once i put the guage into the substrate it read up to 99
percent. My other gauge which after the full 24 hours was a solid 75 % and its currently 85 % so how is it possibly this gauge
is reading so high? and it doesn't appear to be changing. I even removed my plastic wrap and glass cover off my mesh lid
to see how my other gauge would react and it went down to about 80 % and this stayed at 99 % this is no way that this is
correct. Should i send it back as a dud?

How long did you leave the probe in the plastic bag with the salt?

Regardless it can't be reading correctly it's reading 99 percent humidity where as my other gauge that is correct says 85 there's no way the humidity is that high.

Did you place the probe in the same place as your current gauge? Different areas within the tank can vary in humidity and temperature. I would test it by leaving it out somewhere in your house, if it still continues to stay at 99% you know it's faulty (assuming your home isn't nearly that humid lol).

I know it's worthwhile to save money in this whole process of caring for crabs but since temp and humidity are so critical to their well being I opted to purchase a thermometer- hygrometer that was already calibrated. The company will also recalibrate the thermometer whenever needed. Since I work in a laboratory, I've used this company for many years. Costly but I've saved everywhere else from suggestions on this forum. At least there is no question that my temps and humidity are spot on.
I understand that is not an option for everyone. It just was peace of mind for me.

Thanks I'll try that right now it's hanging into the tank not touching anything and is reading 99 percent i have a feeling i got a dud.Hermie225 wrote:Did you place the probe in the same place as your current gauge? Definitely try placing it in different areas within the tank and allow it to adjust for a bit. Maybe near the heater if you are currently using one and as far away from water source as possible.isadoraisacat wrote:Thanks I'll try that right now it's hanging into the tank not touching anything and is reading 99 percent i have a feeling i got a dud.Hermie225 wrote:Did you place the probe in the same place as your current gauge? Is it working property as far as temperature?
I've been considering a unit similar to this but my old Acurite hasn't quit on me yet- but I like the space saving concept of not having a bulky gauge inside the 'tat.

The temp is off.by 3 degrees my good analog reads 83 while this reads 86. I don't know what's wrong I'm going to try to move it around but i have a feeling its a dud:( i may just get one of those flukers digitals instead.Hermie225 wrote:Definitely try placing it in different areas within the tank and allow it to adjust for a bit. Idk how much it cost but maybe it's worth contacting the company and maybe they'll send you a new one?
