Ethically Sourced Shells?

This is where you discuss shells for your hermit crabs. Not for selling/swapping shells, use Classified Ads for that.

Ethically Sourced Shells?

Post by Karima » Fri May 24, 2019 6:03 am

Where might I buy ethically sourced shells? I would like to provide more options for my adopted hermit crabs, but not at the expense of marine wildlife. Thanks for your suggestions.

I know that popular shell websites here are Naples Seashells, and Richard’s Seashells. They can both be found online, but Richard’s also has an etsy shop.

Many of the shells sold commercially in bulk are byproducts of the food industry in other countries. Some species are even farmed for this purpose. If you stick with commonly available turbos, which the crabs love anyways, they generally are ethically sourced.
