E With PPs or Alone / Other Questions by KyMart

Post by KyMart » Tue Jul 04, 2023 9:52 pm

I have the urge to get an E but I don't want to put it with my PPs due to the fact that I have heard they don't do the best with others (moody, sneaky little crabs 😂). I will soon have an empty 10 gallon that I could definitely set them up in eventually. Do you know anywhere I can purchase an E? Any care recommends that are not on the care sheet. Do any of you have Es with PPs? I need opinions and advice!
I have 4 PPs in a 40 gallon breeder!

Nope! you'd just have to search rehoming groups a lot for a while, since exotics are rare, those who have them generally got them on purpose and very much wanted them, so most do not give away unless there are extenuating circumstances

I know someone who does, advice I have seen them give:
- stubborn with shells, love small and light, modify to death before ever switching lol
- his was more prone to aggression despite their best attempts to give what would be plenty for a PP to thrive
- They have a special sub mix for his E, more cocofiber instead of more sand, some type of moss or other mixed in, maybe more, idrr sorry
- get settled into owning PPs for iirc like 2 years first (exotic heermits in general much more specific in care requirements)
- Es were obsereved to be more vocal (chirping) but his were pretty quite (as w any animal, each has own personality)

They are also on the HCA though I dont quite know how to tag and we mostly know each other from discord so at this point i dont even remember his HCA user, or if he even ever gave me their HCA user lol. I know they said they're not as active here anymore as he used to be but who knows, maybe he'll see this and add something

oooh missed some sorry!!

Species buddy recommended so I'd def go for at least a 29 gal rather than a 10 so they can be with another. Though Xen (the one I mentioned on the Discord) noted that interspecies cohabbing provides greater risk of aggression, they have been able to keep PP and E together fine, but since you're separating into two tanks anyway doing it by species def makes sense

Ok, sounds great! When I upgrade from my 40b to a 75 in a few years I will probably get a 55 gallon tank stand that has a 29 gallon shelf and that way I can get a 29 gallon for the bottom, which I could put one or two Es in! I'm going to get a single male Beta fish for the 10 gallon, which I decided onto today, so that research is starting! I wonder what I will put in the 40b hmm maybe I will get something else exotic! That's pretty far from now tho, so I will give it time! I will also have to consider my future schooling and space before upgrading, but I did buy a 75 gallon stand that supports a 20 gallon tank on the bottom for a reason! 😂
