Re: Conflicting info for crabitat
No point of adding to the echo chamber, but i do want to point at one thing she mentioned. The interesting thing is that sand itself does not mould, and will not mould. It's completely inert (silica), and contains no organic matter unless you or the crabs add/drag in organic matter.

It be interesting to see how this all plans out, especially the larval stages. I feel like straws could easily have abbreviated stages, it would certainly make things less time consuming!

Yeah, do the test then change the display on the device if needed:

Im not familiar, but what does the packaging state?
An educated guess, I'd calibrate then adjust, but the instructions on the packaging may state the reverse so good to double check.

Re: Can hermit crab tanks be with same room as a cat litter box?
70% isn't that bad, while low, its not exactly problematic. If it was continuously below 70%, or for large durations below 70%, then yes. Otherwise, it sounds like PPS if your tank is setup in accordance to the guides in the FAQ. PPS can usually hail from prolonged exposure to sub-standard condition...

Re: greensand and worm castings information needed
They are just telling you that you *must* have it so you buy it from them, and probably horribly over priced! So true, took the words straight from my mouth. Oddly enough many sellers don't mention they just waddle over to the local hardware store (or amazon), divy it up in small bags and chuck a s...

Re: Help heating EMERGENCY
You may find with deeper substrate, it will help increase/maintain the heat as the mat only needs to heat a fraction of the tanks total volume, the air (minus all the substrate!).
What size tank do you currently have them in?

Re: Has anyone tried the salt method for calibrating a hygrometer?
Other then spending 8K, no. Salt is by far the most accessable and somewhat reliable. While not foolproof, generally works well enough for our intended purposes without having to spend a small fortune for an expensive equipment that will likelh be used for 5 mins every month or so at a maximum. Whil...

Re: Salt water?
*snip* You need a humidity level of 80% so your crabs can breathe properly. While 80% is commonly toted as the minimum or ideal, crabs will do fine with the humidity consistently being above 70%. They can handle short stints below (shell water helps), but prolonged exposure below 70% can cause issu...

Re: what water is safe for hermit crabs
seachem prime is the recommended brand i believe so you should be good I do want to add, its one of them. By far the most popular - good fan group haha - but other conditioner's can be used without problem! As long as it treats heavy metals and chlorine/chloramine, you're good to go! okay so if I u...

Re: pH levels in saltwater pool
The sand should help if you live in an area with incredibly soft water. But I do want to suggest if you have the funds, and the water parameters do concern, invest in a liquid test kit. Strips are terribly inaccurate, and well known within fish circles as something to be avoided. You're likely to ge...

Honestly, captive bred have no additional requirements besides the obvious pricetag and ensuring that the shells/resources are scaled to suit. For example, a giant wheel isnt going to work!

Re: Dechlorinating water
No, retreating is one of those things that were incorrectly read and somehow has snowballed to where we are today. Sadly, its partially due to the wording on the packaging, but partially due to people not actually bothering to read/find out and following the majority. Interestingly, this misinformat...

Re: Organ Meat?
Id say generally, safe. Some organs can be an issue, but generally what's accessible in the store is going to not be an issue. Keep in mind, different organs are likely to have different nutritional 'files', so ensure that not one is regularly eaten. (Eg: liver is very nutrient dense, but commonly r...

Maybe some squabbles, but honestly, after adding newbies, most cases I'd observe no difference in behaviour once moulters resurfaced. Its like they didnt notice.
