Re: 3 crabs down under

The first crab to go under about a month ago resurfaced today! My kids and I were all so surprised and happy to see it is still alive! It is very active, but it looks pale and gray so I'm thinking maybe it didn't molt. Is it normal for a crab to stay under that long and not be molting? This keeping ...

Re: 3 crabs down under

Thank you for your responses. Today I removed my moss pit to rinse the moss and found one of the crabs in the moss!!! It was the last one to disappear and has been in there for 3-4 days. I suppose it could be coming out at night and I just didn't realize it. I put it back into the crabitat in the lo...

Crab buried in moss

I thought my 3 crabs had tunneled down and buried but today I discovered one in the moss! It was the last one to disappear and has been down about 3-4 days. I was rinsing the moss when I found it. I put it back into the terrarium in the log where they like to hide. Just wondering if they ever bury i...

3 crabs down under

We've had our crabs a month. 1 went under after a week, another after 2 weeks, and the 3rd just went under a few days ago. None have resurfaced. There's no bad smell. Does this sound within the realm of normal?? I'm hoping for the best...

Re: Flies!

Thank you! I HAVE been leaving the food in 24 hours (new food each night). I'll start removing it in the morning unless its dried. if the issue continues I'll try the traps.

Flies!

We've had our crabitat for 3 weeks and today I noticed 2 tiny flies in it (fruit flies?). Where did they come from? How do I get rid of them? Maybe if I take the banana bit out... ??

Re: Crabs don't seem to eat much

Thank you! I KNOW they must be eating and drinking, and have been suspecting they eat so little maybe I just didn't notice any food missing.

Re: Molting?

Thank you for responding, especially about them staying in their shells to molt.
And I suppose it's possible he's de-stressing though I did notice he ate a lot before. It's been a week, I'll just wait and see...

Re: Molting?

The substrate is deep. I think where he went down it is 5-6 inches, that's what I thought was strange, why he didn't go deeper.

Better Veiwing

Now, I KNOW crabs are nocturnal and that makes viewing their interesting lives tricky, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to see them better in the day. Right now we have a hollow cork log and the crabs stay inside literally all day. Because the log is curvy, we cannot see them. In th...

Crabs don't seem to eat much

We've had our crabitat for 3 weeks and honestly, I feel like the crabs don't eat enough! I have been feeding them an array for fresh and dried foods (whole foods, not commercial). I've seen them eating fresh banana, avocado, chicken and coconut, but never any of the dried foods. Is it possible they ...

Molting?

We've had our crabitat for 3 weeks. After 1 week, one of the crabs disappeared and we could see a pile of dirt where he dug down. After about a week I lifted the hollow cork log that they hide in so that I could empty out the poop that accumulates in there, and was surprised to see the missing crab ...
