Re: Temporary Substrate Solution
Yeah... it's the same material, but a different consistency to what many westerners mean by eco earth. Both are coconut choir, but eco earth is processed into smaller bits, so that it has a consistency closer to soil. That said, the inexpensive product that you've found will probably be a fun toy/tr...

Re: Another Upgrade… 300 gallons!
Fantastic! I wish I had the space to build out more of my enclosures to that scale. And I love what you did with the cork background and the cholla! I may think about doing something like that along the sides of my tank, as they're still bare glass, atm. Hmmm.

Re: Lonely crab
They'll make it to jumbo size before you know it, if they're properly cared for, so do keep that in mind. All of my crabs are adopted. Have you checked craigslist (if you don't see the HCA rehoming any in your area)? I've even posted my enclosure and said I'm willing to take in new buddies for my cr...

They love murex. And it's far more affordable than other, size-equivalent shell types that are available at that size.

Re: Enrichment Toy?
I have a bird treat ball that I got for my guinea pigs, but they never really got into it. This thread is making me realize it might be a great way to make the crabs work for some of their food. The treat toy: https://www.vbirdshop.com/foraging-toys/buffet-ball-foot-toy I also think of regularly swa...

fishlore's a good start. petshrimp.com and skfaquatics.com also have crayfish subforums, perhaps with a higher density of experienced keepers than fishlore.

Re: Best large/jumbo shell seller?
I've used Napels, and I've also liked U.S. Seashell co for bulk buys, now that most of my crabs are well beyond "jumbo."

Mine seem to enjoy watching the events in ApartmentLand. I think of it as environmental enrichment.

Re: Bioactive Terrarium
I’m on my phone, so I can’t use the emoji where the smiley face is slapping his arm up and down. That is NOT TRUE @jclee!! My isopods bred OUT OF CONTROL in all of my tanks. They were eating all of the crabs food, and at night when I would go in to look at the tanks it was all isopods. The crabs lo...

Re: Axolotls and Hermit Crabs in the same room?
A less expensive alternative to chillers, depending on your ambient temperature, is to hang fans above the tank. Increased evaporation cools down the temperature. Again, whether this works depends on how hot your apartment gets.
