Re: Mold on coco-hut
It soaked in SW over night, and still molded. I have nothing else to use as a hide. And considering it's Jasmine using it, I'm pretty sure anything to replace it would have to be solid, nothing see through like a soda bottle bottom, because she is pretty shy. She will freeze and immediately hide if ...

Re: Mold on coco-hut
Well the coco-hut is moldy again. I think the only way to (hopefully) avoid it would be to remove the fibers off of it, but I'm not sure how I could remove the fibers. To top it off, Jasmine apparently likes to hide in it, either in her "hole" with her entire shell sticking out, or by hanging upside...

Re: Not climbing?
So cleaning the tat today (removing old food, changing water), I found proof they are climbing everywhere - crab poo EVERYWHERE!
And lots of dirt in the water dishes. And considering I've only seen evidence of 2/4 crabs, they are messy little beasts.

I'm actually starting to wonder if it's a defense mechanism because I've yet to see any sign of him having his bp

Jasmine and Teeny
In the past couple days I've noticed Jasmine and Teeny both switched shells, but I was only able to see them in their new shells tonight. Tank view. Jasmine is in the striped turban (I think that's what it's called) on the right, and Teeny is in the white on on the left. That little leg is actually ...

Re: Darkness?
Well, the light in that room Idra motion sensored, so if I forget to turn it off the cats are turning it on all night long. My husband works nights and has been occasionally getting sent home early. It doesn't take much to be pre-emptive about it. I'm sure it also helps keep the temp in there.

Re: Darkness?
They've got fake plants, a cocohut, etc they can hide under/in. The room they're in is generally undisturbed during the day, but a bit more active around bedtime, so I've been covering the front with a blanket at night just because the light is typically on/off and really bright. I just wasn't sure ...

Darkness?
Should I be trying to keep the crabitat dark while waiting for my crabs to destress and molt, or should I be letting them have normal day/night cycles? I'm pretty sure at least 2/4 have dug down, and one of them has changed shells.

Not climbing?
Do all crabs enjoy climbing? I'm not sure if mine have gone up to the second levels or in the pools at all. Granted, I've only had them a few days. My main reason for being curious is I just got their shells. I put some on ground level, mainly the ones I think the two that are up would like. The oth...

Re: Heating
I had to get a 20 degree temp increase for my crabitat to hit 80. I have a 20g tall. I have a 6x23 ultratherm on the back above the substrate, foil over it, then black foam posterboard covered in foil over the entire back of the tank. On one side I have a small zoomed heater, not insulated (I'm not ...

Re: Shy
I'll try to be mindful of my shadow. The top of the tank is only chest high to me, so my height is a disadvantage I think.
I caught the one on top of the castle when I was changing out food. I hope she can get down if she got up. I can't figure out how she got up there to begin with.

Decorative rock
What needs done to decorative rocks before adding to a crabitat? I was told to never boil rock. Just rinse them off?
