This is giving me an idea to give my crabs a mix of honey, olive oil and eggs and mix in some of the blood worms and shrimp that they like. I may even consider mixing in ground flax seed and chia seed.
I think that might be my issue. Is that I’m only offering them one thing and they want more variety. As soon I start offering more variety, they will start eating more.
I currently don’t have anyone underground at the moment. I only have two crabs. I apologize for the confusion. I think this is what I’m going to try:
Crushed Oyster Shell

Xeno, to answer your question, no, I’m not giving them other things in addition to the fruit. Maybe I need to try giving them fruit, vegetables, protein, calcium and fats in their food bowl. Then let them seek out what they need at the moment.
Right now, my crabs are only wanting proteins and nothing else. I’ve tried feeding them a mix of blueberries, blackberries and strawberries but the crabs weren’t interested. But when I switched it back to bloodworms and shrimp, they started eating. I’m suspecting they may be pre-molt.
I only have two crabs in a 20 Gallon tank. Is 45 shells enough shells for both crabs? I’m thinking 5 per crab. They’re a mixture of Apple murex (a very popular shell with my crabs at the moment), magpies, turbos (NOT a popular shell with my crabs), fox shells, whale eyes and bursa.

Oliviet #1, my crabs really LOVE murex shells so much they don’t want to wear turbos. I’ve tried offering turbos but both of my girls will just shell shop but as soon as I put apple murex in, they will try them on for a little bit but then change back to their old shells. I’ve found it is very impor...
Mine are particularly picky. They will not wear turbos, but will wear Apple murex shells. I put in turbos, no interest. But, take those out and put in Apple murex, and BAM! They check them out. After wearing the new shells, though, the crabs go back to their old shells. Mine also will reject shells ...
Mine is a 5:1 ratio. I bought 20 lbs of play sand off of Amazon (I know, expensive. But I don’t drive and I’m in a 3rd floor apartment) and then bought a brick of EE. I mixed in the EE and it gave me about 3” of sub. I then bought another 13 lbs of play sand. Which brought it up to 4”. I am planning...
I was saying that because people over at the Crab Street Journal have said that. They seem to think the log hides are harmful when put into a closed off space or that the crabs will eat the wood and get sick and die. But that’s if you put wood, bark and needles straight from the tree into the tank a...
