Re: Ultratherm uth's
Where the cord is attached, one side is flat and the other side is bubbled/rounded. The flat side goes against the tank.... On my UTH, the copper strips are away from the tank and the solid black side is facing the tank. Hope that helps!

Re: Daytime food
I too would leave food out during the day... I have some that are only active during the day and others that are only active at night. Some of mine will sleep in the trees/foliage for 3 or 4 days then eat whenever they "wake" up.

Re: Tank size
^^ I couldn't agree more! I would try to aim for a 40 Breeder if possible - less upgrading down the road if you don't overcrowd. They measure 36Lx18Wx16H. They're nice starter tanks IMO and many love the floor print... Craigslist, LetGo, OfferUp, etc. Search reptile, aquarium, terrarium, tank - Reme...

Re: HERMIT CRAB WITH PAINTED SHELL!!!
The best thing is to offer lots and lots of shells around his size and hope for the best. Once he's changed shells, you'll need to remove the painted one so he doesn't change back to it.... He has to change himself. If you try to do it for him, it can injure/kill him... Here's the shell guide: http:...

Re: Attaching hamster wheel
Mine comes out about 3 inches. I cut it about 6 inches wide I think. (Been a while, don't really remember lol). That particular wheel (6.5 in) is too small for my jumbos. I tried a 12 in and its huge. Need to find one for them. Width depends on how big the crabs are. As long as it's around the width...

Congrats on the newbie!
What kind if substrate are you using? It's awfully white hence the question. My sand was an orange-y color til I mixed it with ee (dark brown when properly moist). Now it's a grayish color - don't know how that happened.

Re: Attaching hamster wheel
Well... I started with command strips. I got sick of the hooks falling down (weight of jumbo crabs I guess). I then drilled some wholes in the tank rim lip (pic) and started using zip ties... Havent had a problem since. I think @GotButterflies uses the velcro command strips to hang it, then ties hem...

Re: tank decor
I agree with GB! If you're worried about them wanting to climb it, attach some fish net (single layered) around the the back glass.
