No, it’s nice! I always preferred having more in the tank than less to provide cover.

Re: Found crab, should I buy it a friend?

Interesting... this one’s terrestrial. In that case, refer to our care guides for advice. As for getting him friends, that’s up to you. They are found in colonies in the wild but that’s more to do with resource exploitation than social gathering. In captivity many of the longest living crabs are alo...

Re: How to clean dirty All Purpose Sand and get tapwater contaminants out of it

Chlorine evaporates on its own. Heavy metals and other contaminates will remain but aren’t usually a concern in the substrate.

Re: PPS- Adjustment Question

Oh, I wasn't aware of that! Is there a place I could find it? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about all of this. Also I'm not trying to refute anything or argue in case thats what it looks like lol I'm new to it all and just trying to figure it all out, I hear conflicting stuff and it can get ...

Re: PPS- Adjustment Question

I just saw your post with the links. The admins before me did a massive study and found no difference between transitioned crabs vs. control, which is what we go off of today.

So far no one’s produced any actual data to refute our claims.

Re: PPS- Adjustment Question

The PPS Method hasn’t never been found to be more beneficial than going without. It’s less to do with results and more about what people are comfortable with.

If you know they’re coming from good conditions, though, there’s no need to acclimatize anyways ;)

Found crab, should I buy it a friend?

A vast majority of crabs found on the beach are marine due to terrestrial hermits’ limited ranges. A marine hermit crab is going to be slimmer than their stockier cousins and many have same-sized claws, as opposed to the terrestrials having one big one to block the shell opening. Re: Never Moves

It takes time for crabs to feel comfortable in new surroundings, so she may just feel more secure there.

Re: Crab laying next to assumed molter?

If your molter is underground I would leave it. There’s not much you can do and unless you can see it it likely tunneled away from the entrance, anyways. If your molter is not buried and you can see it then I would consider isolation. You don't need an extra tank, a half bottle pressed into the subs...

I’m guessing he only ripped it apart, but if he did eat it it probably isn’t a big deal.

I am going to repeat JJ’s warning to stay on your teacher’s good side. Giving him supplies may not be as welcome as you might think.

Just got 2!

Welcome to the world of crabbing! It’s okay to feel unprepared, especially with new animals. Just be patient and take it one step at a time.

Moving them one at a time is a valid option, if that makes you feel any better.

Re: Violet’s New Dolphin Shell

I’ve never seen a shell like this! It’s natural and safe? Where can I find one?! I have sooo many shells, but they all look so similar that when my crabbies switch out, I can hardly tell who is who! Shells like this would make it so much easier...plus it’s so pretty! I’ve also got one guy who refus...

Richard’s Seashells, actually. The price was reasonable so I tossed a couple in my cart while shopping.
