Re: Setting up Home Sweet Home

any playsand is good! Popular brands are quikrete and sakrete. for a 40 gallon about 40 bags will be good, the rule of thumb is usually 1 bag of sand and 1 bag/brick of eco earth per 10 gallons, but you dont have to use ecoearth if you dont want to for some reason

So know hermits to self regulate diets I suppose you could provide a Himalayan chunk with no additives experimentally but it would be at own risk, or at least be not so commonly practiced

Re: Newbie: Substrate Question

No need to replace current sand! If not crabs are under you just mix the flukes and eco earth, and if you have less than 6 in you add plays and and mix that too. You can also switch to 5:1 if you prefer as that is popular and known for being designed as a maintenance friendly sub but there’s nothing...

Re: I did a good thing today! by KyMart

That would help alleviate the suffering of those crabs under your care certainly! However, it does not do anything about the problem Curly brought up :( Better some change than none of course but the crabs are still being taken from their natural habitat. Instead of full education how about just a f...

Re: Hermie Help

The temp in the tank right now with no heater and mesh top is 78 and the hygrometer says 78 as well. I’m so sorry for all the questions, I realize I’m being annoying. I’d just rather get real answers then waste all my time on the internet being told so many different contradictory things. I'm also ...

Re: I did a good thing today! by KyMart

Would it be possible to have them complete their research first before giving them the crab? That will A discourage a decent number of people from even buying the crab in the first place B ensure the crabs have a ready-set-up place to call home and C also encourage more people who wouldve bought to ...

Re: New crabs recently surfaced, aren’t going in water pools

We got four hermit crabs a couple months ago, and within the first couple days they all burrowed and we didn’t see them for quite some time. Within the last week, 3 of the 4 have come up and seem to be doing well! My only concern is that they haven’t gone into the water pools, and I’m not sure what...

When a hermit crab molts does it look dead before it moves?
It can definitely seem that way, but it's always recommended to try your best to help them recover until you get confirmation via a fishy or seafood smell
