Is this a sign of molting?

Post by RebeccaSheldon » Sun Oct 04, 2020 6:09 pm

Hello! My fiancé and I are fairly new crab owners and we have one crab that recently changed from their old shell to a new shell. This morning I checked on all of them and noticed the crab was not in its new shell and was no where to be found. I believe it may have went back into its old shell and may be beginning the molting process but I am unsure. Is this normal crab behavior? Or perhaps a sign of molting? Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to crabbing!

It's def normal for crabs to try on different pants to see what they like best. Sometimes they have buyer's remorse and go back to their old shell, after trying on a bunch of new shells.

The hca basic care guide has a lot of good info, so I'd recommend checking it out. Image
