University Student Looking for Crab Research

Post by KrobustheCrab » Mon Jul 08, 2019 4:29 pm

I'm a university student and recent hermit crab enthusiast looking for research papers on hermit crabs and hermit crab reproduction specifically. Any help would be appreciated, including anecdotal accounts! I'm also interested in common behaviors and preferences they exhibit when reproducing like overeating or hanging out in warmer parts of the tank. Thank you all for your help in advance!

I highly recommend Mary Akers personal page for breeding. She has a very detailed almost daily blog of her 2017 and 2018 breeding attempts. It also includes videos and pictures too. Mary is the one that set up Crab Con that Xeno mentioned above. It started off as an adoption weekend for her first successful breeding attempt last year and quickly morphed into something bigger. She is extremely busy at the moment dealing with the final prep work for the convention. Mary would be the best person that I know of to contact about breeding questions in the US. I would suggest waiting a week or two for her to get back into a normal routine after Crab Con.

From her blog it appears breeding season is getting ready to begin in a few weeks.

There are also several breeding posts on here in the "Breeding" section too.
