125 gallon with Philips Hue - Automated sunrise/sunset

Post by JeffCrab » Sat Feb 06, 2021 8:18 pm

So as the title says, I got an idea to buy a light strip from Philips Hue and attach it to the hood of my 125 gallon crabitat.

Here’s some photos of how I installed it, I had to make a couple modifications to the hood with a drill to keep them flush with the tank.

They are now programmed to have simulated sunrise at 6:30 each day that will fade into their day lights. And then their daylights will fade at 8pm to give way to an hour long sunset. After that, their night light is programmed to fade on. And then the process starts all over the next day.

This is the tank with the regular day lighting.

Here’s the tank with the sunrise/sunset program.

And then the tank with the night light on.

A quick overview of the tank in sunrise/sunset mode.

Overall, the process was incredibly easy to make. If you have the Philips Hue ecosystem already in your home, this is a great option. If not, it could be incredibly pricey (starter kits start around $149 and the light strip itself was $79).

Let me know what you think or if you have any questions!
