You can't get talking from a pet fish. Score one for the crab.

That's amazing!!! I heard my crabs talk once, and that was when I first got the new ones and they were chirping in the ISO tank. They haven't chirped since. I think they were argueing over the small space lol.

Do hermit crabs ever chirp for reasons other than "I'm scared" "leave me alone" or because they're in "shell fights"?@LAURIE

They talk when they are about to come up from a mass molt so they all know to come up at the same time. Mine also chirp at me when I move them to do minor clean ups. They will not shy away from telling me off.

My crab only chirps when she is in a resting state or at the end of a molt, underground. She's never done it for any reason of stress that I can detect. It seems to happen when the temperature is 78 degrees, which I think is her favorite, judging from activity patterns. It sounds like: "oink, oink, oink, oink, oink, oink, oink, oink."

I get to work on a desk right in front of my tank so I get to watch them all day every day so I get to hear it fairly often. Most of the time it's when one is climbing over another, and 75% of the time E's are involved.

Like Kuza said, mine get after me when I'm in their tank. They do t like a giant hand gettin in there and messing things around.

colorcrab: I think a crab was crawling on another at this time and the other one was telling him off ..the pet store owner said it was talkative but I assumed it was only during stressing issues / shell fights ect..
