lost my crab cakes

my small crab was under for over a month, being a newbie I was worried so I scooped the sand away from him to see if he was o,k, well he came up walked around and an hour later he was out of his shell. I pushed him back in and flipped him over,put the bridge over him & left him alone for a few days. I had noticed the tank was starting to smell, so I checked him, he was gone, what ever was in the shell had decomposed & his limbs he droped were not hollow. From the smell of him I'm 99.9% sure he was dead. If your a true animal lover you do feel sorry for them, I was forced to be a surragate crabbie parent after my son left to go to college & kind of fell in love with them.
