Anyway, we have two medium sized PP crabs in a 10 gallon tank with 6-8 inches of substrate (eco-earth and Flukker's crab sand) depending on how they push the stuff around. They're fed a varied diet which is basically whatever I cook for dinner, minus seasoning of course, and some dried shrimp twice a week. Tank temp and humidity are good. We live in central FL so it doesn't tend to get too cold or dry around here. Immediately after bringing the crabs home and putting them into their crabitat, they both went down to molt. This was March 2017. Roughly five weeks later I saw the larger and feistier of the two reemerge. The shy, smaller, crab came out about a week later.
Early in September we were hit by Hurricane Irma and our power was out for 8 days. Keeping their crabitat warm and humid was clearly not a problem - temps inside our house hovered around 88 degrees. But they both disappeared around this time and we didn't see either of them again until two weeks ago when the big, feisty one came back up. He was all hairy and shiny and clearly newly molted! There was still no sign of the smaller one and I started to think that maybe s/he didn't make it after the storm. But lo and behold, there s/he was tonight! All shy and anti-social, but obviously bigger and stronger than two months ago.

So now that I know they are both alive, well, and done molting, I'm thinking it's time to transition them to a new, larger tank. The bigger crab keeps trying to escape through the top. He loves to climb but there's little space for him to move vertically. I'm looking for some advice on setting up the new tank and how to move them over with minimal stress. Tamatoa (the smaller crab) seems very averse to people and stress, in general, so I don't want to accidentally hurt while trying to help.
I'm also curious about whether adding another crab is necessary. The larger crab, Striker, is out and about all the time. Tamatoa never seems to come out to socialize. Should we consider bringing in another crab (after we have a larger crabitat) to keep Striker company? Or am I overthinking this?
