If your looking for something in a pinch (haha), consider an empty (plastic) margarine/butter/ice cream container with a door cut out. Takes 5 mins, and works great.

Terracotta flowerpots also work as well (as do plastic flowerpots, but terracotta is a great 'sponge' and rather good at releasing water vapour (humidity) if its unglazed!

Rocks (something like slate) or tiles work as well, as long as its sturdy.

You dont have to go out and buy a hide, its rather simple and easy to make your own or find one laying around the house!

Exercise wheels keep crabs busy for hours! It may take them a while to find the wheel. Once they do they spend hour after hour on them. I found mine prefer wheels over spinners.

I will usually see several crabs a day in and out of the wheels. The spinner I had in for over a month I only saw 2-3 crabs on it a handful of times. I may not have let it in the tank long enough though. I thought about adding some peanut butter to the center to get more action but never tried it.
