Broke down and pity purchased

Post by wodesorel » Wed Jan 08, 2020 5:57 pm

I was having a day, and when we stopped for crickets there was this little guy with every single leg snipped off sitting in the empty water dish, and I just couldn't leave him there.

Well, I had to run to the store next door and my husband said he'd take him out to the car. I get done and hop in and my husband is practically in tears - he walked out the door and the wind caught the bag and somehow the container the little guy was in came falling out. He seems okay thankfully!

I have zero idea where he'll go permanently because he is just so tiny, but for now he's in proper conditions and I expect him to go straight down and molt tonight. Figure that will give me a few weeks to figure out something permanent. May just need to set up a teeny tank somewhere again!

He really likes his new shells, btw. ImageImageImage

My husband and I have both pity purchased. Most, if not all ended up dying. But at least we know that they died being loved instead just left for dead in the store. It breaks our hearts to see them suffer and we want to save them all, but we know we can't.

Pretty sure it's been a good 5 years since the last time I pity purchased from PSP. For a while there when I started crabbing, I held them to that live animal guarantee and would get chains of free crabs trying to save them. It was so heartbreaking, but then a few would survive so I guess it was worth it. I'm really hopeful with this little one, he's incredibly active and outgoing.

Congrats on the little one! Certainly is a little cutie, and dont blame you for a pitty purchase!

I may suggest something that you're against, but he could worj with your ruggie?

Ms. Rug has been thriving, for 4 years this April. My first thought was to toss him in with her, but honestly I'm afraid to ruin a good thing. Most exotics make it 3 to 5 years only in captivity, and I'm kind of experimenting to see if that is really due to them, or if it's due to the risks of cohabitating. I'd be devastated if putting them together passed something to her, or disturbed her molts!

Understandable. Something I didn't think much of tbh.
