New Crab caretakers.

Post by Dad-One » Fri Oct 30, 2020 12:32 am

Hello all!

My husband and I are now (month old) crab owners, and as such we have plenty of questions.

As far as we can tell, Crusty is a female Purple Pincher. She’s already moved between two shells in this time period.

She’s normally very active, even waving at us and responding with antenna wiggles when talked to.Image

Lol. She looks like she is playing dead. Maybe she’s waiting for a treat!

She got some finely diced apple this morning before I left for work.

They were mostly gone by time I got home.

My husband then gave her some finely diced bacon that we had for dinner tonight. She’s slowly moving over to her food dish. Image

She was all over that Apple this morning. Image

Just a caution about bacon....it has tons of additives and preservatives, which aren't great for crabs long term.

That’s why she only got a tiny amount. Basically a tiny crumbly bit.

She was way more interested in the Apple, then the bacon. Good girl. Eat healthy, stay healthy.

My Hermie looooves apples! It was the first thing I noticed she really liked bc she dragged it off and ate it, I guess not wanting to share, haha. She seems to really like unsweetened shredded coconut too! Also, oats rolled in either honey or peanut butter. Yummy stuff! Has Crusty flipped back over yet?

I haven’t tried oats and pb with her yet, but I will likely tomorrow.

She flipped herself over, molted, ate the exo and then pranced around her terrarium.

She went for swim in the salt water and then for a climb earlier. I wasn’t sure of she could get out of the salt water tub without a ramp, so I put the sponge in just in case.

Turns out, she went out the side without the sponge and then climbed right up her hide. ImageImage

The sponge is now gone.

Complete revamp of crabitat happening soon. Proper substrate of both type and depth. More things to climb on, more things to hide in.
