Using bubbler on water to increase humidity. Correcting an old post I read

This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

Using bubbler on water to increase humidity. Correcting an old post I read

Post by papastanki » Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:12 pm

I read from a post here that using a bubbler to crab pool increase humidity.
the thread is locked and is from years ago

I am just posting here to inform everyone that this is false. and can only be True under specific circumstances

First
A bubbler push air through the tube to create bubble. Where do they get the air from?
- your room / where the bubbler machine is

so, if your room is 40% humidity and 70F, you are not only blowing dry air in but also colder air than your tank.

Second
For every air it push in, Air from your tank is being push out. This means that heated air from your tank is escaping from tank in faster rate from opening near your tank lid.
AND also, hot air stays on top while cold air stays below, this is the law. So, it takes time for the new colder air pushed from bubbler to be heated.

HOW TO FIX THIS?
simple, put the air bubbler inside your tank ;)
It will just recirculate your air with the exact same specs of humidity and temperature

thats all I want to add
thanks

Very curious about replies on this! Always heard bubblers help with humidity...

I have bubblers and have never had a problem with humidity...until very recently. I added a large uth to my tank and while it brought temp up 3 degrees (to 82 ), my normal humidity of 82-84, dropped by 10%! I have 2 moistened moss pits, 2 large pools with bubblers and 1 small wading pool. Also have moistened pillow moss covering 2nd level stuff, glass lid with openings where bubbler tubes are covered with tape. Don’t know what else I can do and was going to post about this for help, but if what you say is true, this could be my solution!

Any feedback from others?

Some of it could be true, but some of it seems like flawed logic. When the water bubbles burst, they release tiny aerosolized droplets of water (i.e. humidity). I have a bubbler in my FW only. I have to refill my FW pool every other day whereas my salt pool stays relatively static. I rarely have to refill it. Where does that water go? Into the atmosphere as humidity. Some goes into the sub as water, but most goes into the atmosphere.

I would never put something electrical into my tank. That seems a recipe for disaster.

Yea, I didn’t like the idea of putting it in my tank either, seems like it would damage it over time...but also made sense that it’s bringing in the cooler, dry air too. Idk, lol. Just trying to figure out my humidity issue, but I’ve since posted on it and hoping I can get it figured out soon!

Bubblers do work for many people, but as you suggest they’re not efficient for people in drier climates. I ended up turning mine off in the winter entirely for that reason until I replaced it with a fogger.

For that matter, though, putting electronics in the crabitat is a game of chance between the humidity and the crabs.

Hmmm, maybe I’ll turn them off and see what it does to the humidity then.

Thanks Joe! Image
