Used tank question

Post by Arkos » Tue Mar 02, 2021 9:54 pm

Hi all, been lurking for years and only just now made an account, thanks to all of you guys for the knowledge you've provided over the years. Anyhow, I'm terrified of using bleach or any chemicals on the 50 gallon I just purchased. So I cleaned with a glass scraper, undiluted white vinegar, and some lemons for scrubbing. It will be a couple days before the coco substrate and ultrathern get here, and i was wondering if just leaving the tank to sit empty for a couple days to dry out would be good enough, or do i need to rinse with dechlor. Thanks again for you guys help :D

i rinse my new tanks out when i clean them
and then wipe them down with paper towels
but i dont use dechlorinated water when i rinse it out
i rinse new tanks out in the tub or outside when the weather is good and as long as you wipe it down well you shouldn’t have to worry about using dechlorinated water

Here's the tank, just got it on the stand that I modified to make more sturdy. My little crabs are about to get a huge upgrade from a 10 gallon :D . There is a gap in between the two glass panels that make the top, this shouldn't be a problem right? Other than humidity which won't be a hard fix. It's about 18 inches tall and I will be filling with 6-8 inches of coco/sand, so until I add a second level I think it might be okay. ImageImage

Alright, one last thing, will this light hood for fish that came with the tank be okay as a viewing light source? It's got two 18" fluorescent bulbs they're plant/aquarium bulbs that are 510 lumens and 15 watts in each one. This won't bother them as long as I only use it when I'm viewing them right? Image

You can leave the lights on all day so they get a normal day/night cycle.
