Where to buy Isopods from online that ain’t too pricy?

Post by HermieLover24 » Mon May 19, 2025 6:52 pm

I’m looking into getting Isopods for my hermit crabs tank setup. I have three hermit crabs and they are in a long aquarium that is 4ft long (I’m not sure how many gallons because it was given to me) and I’m also looking to put the isopods in a 10 gallon aquarium. How many should I get and where? I’m thinking on getting the “Armadillidium nasatum” or the “Porcellio scaber”.

imo porcellio arent great but they have higher protein needs. armadillidium is great, all around pretty safe. pretty sure got butterflies or some other modmin here gives out pods for the price of shipping! don't know which one she has though

The cheapest ones I know of are in your backyard :)

Do you have any that live in your area?

I love Josh's Frogs. They are ethical and work with hermit house.
Supporting your local reptile shop is also wonderful. I supported my local indie reptile shop.

Hi C: ClareCrabOwner :)

I actually took some from my backyard a couple of months ago and I am breeding them out a couple of generations just in case they have pesticides in their systems. Thank you for the idea! :D

I have never had isopods, but you are absolutely correct in breeding them out a few generations before putting them in your crab tank!
