Some of the "Fellowship"

Post by ashleyandanimals » Fri Jul 03, 2015 11:50 pm

I wanted to share a few pics of my babies. :)

Image

Arwen is my super athletic lady. She never dug down until she was ready to molt.

Image

Pippen just finished his third molt with me (and I've only had him since January!) ! He is the only one to pinch me so far, but it was right after I got him so I have forgiven him.

Image

My Rosie has molted once with me so far but I have a feeling she will be digging down again soon. She's very sweet.

All of these guys are fearless. They are not afraid of me AT ALL. They love to climb all over my arms and they barely flinch when I open the lid or reach in to get them.

Image

My "surprise" Ecuadorians from my amazing niece and her husband! They have hermits also and are some of the few willing to enable me! :)

Very sweet! I, too, have an Arwen but she's a dog: 1/2 long-haired doxie and 1/2 pitbull so she ended up with not very long fur, standard pitbull speckled blaze down the chest and fat hairy feet. I adopted her as a "used" dog at 13 months (she's now 11 yrs old) so she came pre-named and I always kid that she has the hairy feet of a hobbit but the name of an elf princess = totally Tolkien  !
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale
Also Mom to Imogene the Syrian Hamster

AWW! She sounds wonderful! Haha! I have a 2 1/2 year old mini long-haired doxie named Zoey. She's a mess and she has that famous dachshund stubbornness and attitude. Her new thing is refusing to do tricks if she doesn't feel like it and just running to the nearest person for pity so she doesn't have to work. What can you do?

Beautiful crabs! About how big are their shells? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out how old my crabs might be, and if they've molted before. (I've only had them for about a month, but they've just moved into shells that are about three inches in diameter, so I think they're older than I'd originally thought.)

Thank you (even though I can't really take credit for their beauty!)

Arwen is around medium size. Her shell is probably about two inches in length, maybe a bit more?

The rest are smalls, I'd say, maybe 1 1/4-1 1/2?

Looking back I should have measured during this photo shoot!

It's really hard to tell age with these guys. Even size can be deceiving to some degree since some just molt more frequently than others!

*Not counting the E's here since they are new and normally pick too small shells anyway*

Also, do you men molted before ever? Or just in captivity? Your crabs have molted lots before they were moved from their home. If you mean since you've had them, or are trying to see how long ago they molted before you got them, look for hairy legs and black nail tips. The hairier and sharper their legs the more recent their last molt was.

Hope that helps!
