Finally, she's molting!

Post by CrabMommaChara » Wed May 15, 2019 12:38 pm

In january, I got my tank and my two hermies. Almost immediately, Hermes, my bigger boy, decided to molt in the comfortable terrain!
Now, more recently, Athena has been digging around and I've had to stop her from surface molting once, but she is now underground and reasonably assured to be molting! After this, if she survives, it means both my crabbies will be safe from PPSS! Athena has always been a bit low on calcium, so does anyone have any calcium-rich foods I can serve her after she comes up? I'm trying to assemble a hermit crab recipe book!

What do you mean you 'had to stop her from surface molting'?

Cuttle bone, egg shells, powdered coral are all good calcium sources.

She was digging into the substrate only a little and then staying there for days at a time (I checked for hermit crab tracks; she didn't move) so I made sure she hadn't begun the molting process and then moved her to an ISO.

Crabs don't need to be isolated to molt. Are your conditions in the iso tank appropriate, with deep enough substrate?

Yup, I've got 6 inches of substrate, 75 humidity and 75 degrees

Why did you move her to an iso tank?

Because Hermes was trying to mess with her every now and then.

Lol
I have had pets in the past, but my family can’t have any furry or feathered ones due to allergies. I usually try my best to help and currently trying to set up a crabitat. I also try to treat others with Love!❤️
